How to Kill a Monkey

ree

I usually avoid series on Netflix. They’re long, emotionally demanding, and often end in a way that leaves you unsettled, asking: What next?

But How to Kill a Monkey by Kemi Adetiba had me from the trailer. I even set a reminder. The moment it dropped, I watched it straight and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since.

Now, if you haven’t seen the series yet, I’ll admit you may not fully get the gist of what I’m about to say. Please forgive me for the spoilers and references ahead.

Let’s just say, betrayal was flying everywhere.

Oboz, who knew the truth about Teacher but kept quiet, while chasing his “friend’s” daughter. Efe, betraying his wife and plotting to kill his so-called friend. Nosa, barely out of a relationship before getting involved with Doctor.

Madam Restaurant, who made promises but changed once her needs were met. And the Detective pretending to be a loyal friend, just to leak information to criminals.

But beyond the drama, the show held up a mirror to real life.

People don’t always abandon their values easily. Sometimes, life really corners you. You’re trying to survive. You’re trying to love. You’re trying to protect your pride, your dreams, or your future. And in those moments, choices can get blurry. So if you’ve ever found yourself compromising under pressure, you’re human. I see you.

Still, even in the chaos, staying true to your values is always the better path because when you bend too far, you break.

And here’s what I’ve come to believe: “Stand for something or you will fall for anything."

The world will always be full of distractions, betrayals, and pressure. But just because the noise is constant doesn’t mean you should lose your rhythm.

So pause. Reflect. Stay rooted in who you are.

The real test isn’t whether life gets loud it’s whether you still recognize yourself when it does.
