Tips on Time Management

Do you ever find yourself thinking that 24 hours in a day is not enough to tackle everything on your plate?

This is a common struggle for dedicated business or career people who are eager to balance it all and make a positive impact; the to-do list can quickly become overwhelming affecting both mental well-being and overall satisfaction.

The importance of effective time management cannot be overemphasized.

Few years ago, I reached a point of complete overwhelm and realized I needed to make some changes to avoid a total crash.

The first step I took was learning to say “No” to commitments or individuals that didn’t align with my core values and priorities.

This requires a bit of bravery but once you do it, it feels liberating and like a breath of fresh air.

Some other strategies I implemented are:

  • Prioritize with intention: focus on tasks that are both “important and urgent” as well as “important but not urgent”. Set realistic goals- focus is on progress not perfection.

  • Delegate: you cannot do it all. Trying to do so is a poor leadership trait and fastest way to burn-out.

  • Leverage technology: take advantage of calendars, reminders and other tools to organize yourself. Automate routine tasks like recurring bill payments, purchasing the regular food stuff etc.

  • Quick wins: if an important task can be done in two minutes or less; get it out of the way quickly to avoid pile up e.g. replying an email.

  • Self Care: rest is productive. Good sleep is vitamins to your soul and mind. Even during a hectic day, make time for short breaks to recharge.

There are loads of time management tips but these have been particularly effective for me.

What’s yours?

I heard this phrase last week and it cracked my ribs – “Don’t try to be El Shaddai or else You shall die”.

On a more serious note, you can embody the role of a super human while still holding onto your values and inner peace.

Wishing you a wonderfully organized week ahead.
