What Music Are You Playing?

“Mowunmi… Mowunmi!” my mum called from the kitchen downstairs.
I sighed dramatically, threw my hands in the air, and made my way down. I already knew what it was—dishwashing duty.
I’m not a lazy person—but as a teenager, if someone had asked me which chores I’d gladly outsource for life, I’d answer without blinking: washing plates and ironing clothes.
Growing up, which chore did you wish you never had to do?
But here's my hack: as long as the water is flowing 🚿 and music is playing🎶, washing dishes feels a lot less annoying.
The music must be on. Volume up. Vibes correct.
Because for me, music isn’t just entertainment. It’s a lifeline. A tool. A weapon. A form of medicine. Infact, an invisible friend 🙂
When I need to worship, it centres me.
When I want to work out, it pushes me.
When I’m hurting, it comforts me.
When I’m missing someone, it gives language to the gap.
When I’m cleaning, cooking, or creating—it’s music I turn to.
Even when I’m posting something as simple as an Instagram reel, I still think: What track fits this mood?
Music is present in so many parts of our lives that we often underestimate its power.
But I’ve learned not to just enjoy music—I’ve learned to use it.
Want to get motivated? Use music.
Need to cry and let it out? Use music.
Trying to feel peaceful in chaos? Use music.
Want to reset your energy or brighten your mood? Please—use music.
Because really, can you stay upset when your favourite music starts playing?
I can’t. My frown softens, my shoulders drop, and somehow, everything feels more manageable.
As Stevie Wonder said:
"Music is a world within itself, with a language we all understand"
And I believe that.
Music doesn’t just fill silence, it shifts atmosphere. It lifts the tired, steadies the anxious, mends the broken, and empowers the unsure.
Think about it…
A spa without soft background music? Incomplete.
A party without music? Flat.
Even a movie scene without a soundtrack would lose its emotional punch.
So this week, I’m reminding you:
Don’t just listen to music—use it. Let it help you take charge of your mood, your mindset, and even your moments.
Whether you’re in your room, in your car, working late into the night, or just trying to finish a dreaded chore—press play. Let music move you forward.
Now tell me, what’s your mood-to-music playlist?
What do you listen to when you want to worship God?
When you want to feel unstoppable?
When your heart needs comfort?
And of course, your go-to party starter?
Drop your favourites. I’m building my playlist too.
Let’s vibe and grow together.
