I once shared with a friend that I've experienced my fair share of "Gbas Gbos" (struggles) in life.
Before I could elaborate, she interrupted me, asking,
"What have you been through? If you only knew what I've faced..."
STOP IT!
Let’s put a stop to that!
When someone chooses to share their pain with you, it’s often because they’re seeking to move past it and release those feelings.
Give them that space.
Sometimes, the most healing thing you can do is simply acknowledge their pain and say - “I’m here for you.”
It's important not to minimize anyone's pain or suffering. Life’s challenges shouldn’t be turned into a competition.
Avoid sharing your struggles with those who aren’t ready to listen or who have already formed an opinion or judgement before you’ve had a chance to express yourself.
Over time, I’ve realized that there’s a crucial link between healing from your pain and articulating what caused it.
It’s essential to find a healthy outlet for your feelings instead of keeping them bottled up.
Trust me, you might explode later.
Find your voice.
Besides, remaining in a state of hurt can sap your creativity, peace, performance, health, and happiness. This, in turn, impacts your relationships, work and finances.
Take intentional steps to heal.
Here are a few tips for you as you embark on your healing journey:
Practice self-care and mindfulness: Activities like meditation, yoga, exercising or simple walks can help ground you in the present and ease the burdens of the past
Seek professional help: Even if you have relatives, friends or mentors to confide in, seeking the perspective of a trusted and unbiased professional, like a therapist, counsellor or coach can provide you with more clarity.
Seek Support wisely.
C.S. Lewis wisely noted, "Getting over a painful experience is much like crossing monkey bars. You have to let it go at some point in order to move forward."
It's time to heal.
Remember that healing is a collective effort.
By uplifting one another, we can transform our pain into strength and connection.
Stay happy 😊
